The Importance of Humidity Control

Having the right amount of humidity indoors can make or break a home or business. Whether a home is too humid or has too low a humidity can be the difference between health issues and the devastating need for repairs. The same goes for businesses and warehouses too, having too high a humidity can ruin your inventory entirely.

The relative humidity is measured by how much water vapour content is in the air. The amount of water vapour in the air is expressed as a percentage of the amount needed to achieve saturation at the same temperature. There’s a need for stability in your relative humidity because it is highly sensitive to the change in temperature, so having a stable temperature will give you stable humidity.

When the temperature increases, the air becomes drier, and when the temperature decreases the air becomes wetter. This makes it important to monitor the relative humidity in order to control the moisture.

Keeping Your Cool

On a hot summer’s day, there are very few things better than having a swim in the door. Many people have indoors swimming pools to allow swimming all year round and this is where it becomes important to monitor the moisture in the air. If the humidity is controlled, it will promote better air quality indoors, and when there’s a pool, it’s even more important.

Indoor pool dehumidifiers are essential if your swimming pool is fully enclosed or mostly enclosed. Without one, there’s a strong chance that the excess condensation on the windows and the smell of the pool and its chemicals will be present in the room, and these are clear signs that there isn’t enough ventilation.

You want to aim for a relative humidity of between 50 and 60 percent. Having too much humidity will lead to condensation, which can then lead to corrosion and health implications. If you’re someone who owns a commercial warehouse with humidity, this can also lead to electrical shorts, damaging or destroying your equipment.

If there isn’t enough humidity, the air becomes dry and can cause itchy and dry eyes. It can also lead to dehydration, and the spread of viruses, something that nobody wants to promote in our current global climate.

Most people opt for a dehumidifier that recirculates the air and absorbs the water by evaporating. These condenser dehumidifiers are relatively popular and will be a far better solution than natural ventilation, especially since you can never fully count on the outside conditions.
